Welcome to DJB Design.

I’m one of those with two first names. So is it David? Or is it Jack?

Short answer? Yes.

Some call me Jack, others call me David Jack, and my family has all sorts of nicknames we don’t have to get into here. I’ve been designing and writing professionally for more than 20 years. Finding stories and expressing unique ideas visually has been my M.O. for as long as I can remember. I care about the details, and I care about what message your project is trying to convey. Making sure all the project’s pieces are cohesive in message and look is paramount to its success.

My career is steeped in connecting with myriad users and audiences. In some of the country’s largest newsrooms, my visual design helped tell complex stories and ideas in digestible ways. I directed a 45-person studio of visual designers, content designers for audiences of more than 500,000. As owner and creative director of DJB Design, I lead a small but powerhouse team that delivers projects ranging from data visualization to daily digital editorial products to digital marketing creative.

I launched DJB Design LLC as a way to utilize my skills as a graphic designer, production and systems consultant, and visual guru. I created social media posts and blogs for electric truck manufacturer Rivian; I have designed books and exhibition spaces graphics for The Historic New Orleans Collection; designed internal and external presentation material, large-format display graphics as well as retouched photography for major companies in the energy sector; led the visual creative for a successful political campaign for a city council candidate in a major U.S. city; and consulted with publishers big and small to create new workflows and streamline production, implement content management systems, and train super and end users.

In May 2022, I received my certification from UC Berkeley’s UX/UI Bootcamp. This grueling, 24-week, intensive class sharpened my skills a user-centered designer. In more than 900 hours of work, I refined my abilities in user research, user tests, wireframing, prototyping, and working coding knowledge.

Some of my proudest work comes in the form of Queer Cartography, a poster-publishing project I started with two friends in 2013 to document untold stories of New Orleans’ queer past.

I am the youngest of five children, and learned the value of hard work at an early age on our family’s farm in southeastern Idaho. I geek over a fantastic typeface (and how it is used), a smart Spotify playlist, New Orleans Saints football, old houses, and enjoy a good road trip or hike with my husband, Mike.
